Abbie's Birthday
Happy Birthday Abbie! I can't believe my baby girl turned 1. We had her well baby check up this week and she is 17 pounds and 10 ounces and 28 inches long. The doctor said she is a little underweight, but I still think she is happy and healthy. She did finally start crawling the week before her birthday. She is so lazy when it comes to movement, but she is getting there. Her party was fun. Abbie was not a big fan of the frosting, but Stevie sure liked it. I just can't believe she is 1.

Boo at the Zoo
I love Halloween. It keeps us so busy. We took the kids to Boo at the Zoo last weekend and it was fun. I was worried that it wold be too cold or wet since it rained all day, but by the time we needed to leave it had warmed up and the sun was even out. Stevie even managed to walk most of the time at the zoo. I think Daddy had a good time too, but who can go wrong with a ton of candy.
So too keep up with our theme last weekend, we hit our pumpkin patch too. Stevie was able to do more of the activites this year. He really wanted to do the slide again, but that line got so long. He picked out the perfect pumpkin for us to carve, so we will get that done soon. He got to ride the train and climb on the hay stack and of course the pony ride. Poor Abbie got to watch from her stroller, but there is always next year.
Big milestone though, was Abbie said Mama on Octobe 14th. This month she has learned to wave and sit up on her own. She is kind of scooting backwards, but it is mainly to sit up. I saw her doing that about a week ago. She even learned to give Daddy a "five" on Tuesday. Still not crawling though. she had her own way to get around.

Time for Fall
The weather is finally cooler...yay. We seem to get busier and busier, but we have to take advantage of the time Daddy has before he starts back up into school. We took a family trip to Denver and rode Thomas the Train. It was a fun morning and boy did Stevie have a good time.
He is still talking about Thomas.
We are getting ready for all our fall traditions. We have Boo at the Zoo, the pumpkin patch, and of course Halloween. Stevie decided he is going to be Thomas (big shocker there.)
Abbie of course is getting bigger and so stinking cute. She is still not hitting all her growth markers and causing some worry, but I know she will catch up. She is rolling like a mad woman and reaching for anything and everything. She really likes to steal her brother's cup because I guess it tastes better than her own water. I am grateful she is not crawling yet, but she has still disappears rolling around.I am trying to help her stand more, but she is wobbly and falls if I let go (even when holding on to something else.) It is nice to have such a laid back child.

Travels
We have been so busy this summer with our travels. I am starting to hate the laundry afterwards. It has been a fun time. We have gone to our first baseball and today the first football game. We drove to Utah for Shawn and Andie's wedding. We went to Rocky Mountain National Park and next weekend is Yellowstone. It seems we are always on the go. As much as I love this little things we are doing, I do enjoy being home.
Milestone for Abbie, she learned how to wave three weeks ago and today she tried pulling herself up. Still not crawling though. Abbie just doesn't feel the need to crawl. Maybe she will learn some new tricks when we head off to Yellowstone on Wednesday.

Annoyed
Don't get me wrong, I love being home and I wouldn't change it for the world, but I really am going to pull my hair out and scream. It seems for the last few days my children...aka Stevie...have gone deaf. I ask him to pick up his toys and he chucks them across the room. I ask him to leave Abbie alone and he pushes her down so he can play with her while she lays down.
In last fews days we have had multiple talks (and timeouts) about cords and electrical outlets. We do have all of our outlet child proof, but 2 days ago he managed to break one of the covers off. Yesterday, all he did during nap time was cry because he didn't want to take a nap. I went in around 3:30 because the crying turned into owie and I think he may have gotten a jolt because once again he was playing with the outlet. He had his light bulb out of his night light while it was still plugged in and told me he hurt his finger.
I am not sure how many more timeouts are not going to work. I know he is two and that is just the age, but it is still beyond frustration. A friend once called it opposite day and boy that is what he was doing this whole week. I think I need a time out!

I said what?
Now that I am finally caught up from blogging about the trip, I can focus on our daily activities. So every now and then I say something to my kids I never thought I would say. The first time was about a year ago when I scolded Stevie and told him to "stop chewing on the fridge." The little stink was teething on the fridge handle.
Today was "don't put chicken in your sock." He was shoving his chicken nuggets into his socks while we were finishing lunch before going into the store. The things this kid comes up with.
We just got the new swingset finished last night. We will have to wait and see what this little daredevil does next.
On a side note, Abbie is still shoveling food as fast as she can get it. Tonight was spaghetti and boy did she love it. She is enjoying the swingset as well. She is growing to dang fast. She can sit up by herself and things Stevie is the funniest thing around. I am wondering it her first world will be Stevie now.

ER Trips
So our vacation started with an ER trip and ended with one. The week before we left, Stevie got pink eye. Quick call to the doctor, a trip to the pharmacy and 3 days of isolation. I thought we were in the clear.
The day before we left, we were all ready to go to the gym. It was one last trip before our flight. A half hour before we were going to walk out the door, Stevie was playing and running like a mad man around the house. He tripped and fell into the cupboard again. Well this time he caught the edge and got a gash in his forehead. So instead of pilates, we were off to the ER for two stitches. He now has a nice little scar.
We were suppose to track down an urgent care while in New York to get those stitches removed, but they don't have any near Gram's house. The closest one was 80 miles away. Thanks to my Aunt Connie, Stevie got his stitches removed on Gram's kitchen table on grazing night.
When we got home, we had to make another trip. My parents were getting ready to leave that Saturday and were pacing up. Stevie broke into Grandma's back pack and started chewing on one of her heart pills. Off to the ER and the boys had a nice little sleepover in the ICU. He didn't ingest too much, but better safe than sorry. Grandma sure felt guilty, I was a nervous wreck and well other people need to learn life is not all about them. I doubt it will ever happen, but some things are more important than being on time.

Vacation Ends
I have to get all these blogs caught up because we didn't have internet for most of the trip. We have been home for almost two weeks now, and boy it was good to get home. As much fun as we had and all the new adventures, it was a long two weeks.
We finished up in Pennsylvania by going through old pictures. I did get the old family bible that I have wanted for years and a ton of the old pictures. Stevie got to go to Gardner's candy and get all his penny candy. We ended up at a park down in Tyrone were Stevie finally got to play on a real slide. There was a nice creak that we got to splash in. Stevie and I even tried catching the little minnows. Abbie even took a little dip in the creek but relaxed with Grams while Stevie and I played.
Heading back to New York was a good thing. We spent the night at Connie's and got to eat something else besides steak! We had chinese. It was heaven to take a real shower and sleep in a comfortable futon, all to myself. Stevie is a kicker! So while I was in the shower, Mom and Connie took Stevie for a walk down to the park. They came back completely soaked. We finished up by going down to the creek behind Connie's house. Stevie jumped in that creek, tennis shoes on and everything. This whole trip, my mother was determined to keep his tennies soaked, even though I brought water shoes and sandals. His shoes spent a lot of time in the dryer.
Our last day at Grams was an easy day. We just hung out and packed up. Stevie got to play in the "swimming pool." We got out a big bowl and just let him splash. The night ended with a rain storm that Stevie wanted to play in. Grandma took him into the rain to play. It was a great way for him to get his nightly shower.

Lightening Bugs
So all three nights we had to try to get the lightening bugs. This is the only place I know that he will be able to catch them. The first night was more me running around the yard chasing and soving them in the jar while he kept pointing "there, there, there." The second night he wanted to put them in the jar after I had caught them. We only squished a couple of them. He had no fear just grabbing them and shoving them in that jar.
Tonight, he was all about it. We went across the street because they had better bug access. He was running around, grabbing them, taking them from me and grandmanand getting them in that jar. I can't believe he is touching those bugs. I heard from grandma that he tried getting an ant earlier...silly boy.
Abbie had to get in on the action to. She was trying so hard to get that jar after we came back. She was really into watching those bugs.

Great Grandma McFarlands
So our travels continue in PA. We have been at Great Grandma's for two and a half days and I am so sticky and hot. So not use to this weather. We have been going out doing all the old things dad use to do when he was little. Stevie has been having a blast because of all the animals. It seems we are out five times a day throwing rocks into to crick trying to hit the frog. He keeps scaring me because the kid has no fear and is leaning just a little to far.
Dusty's wedding was yesterday. We survived both weddings. It was fun. We had to skip the reception because of the kids but it was good to see my Uncle Den. He looked hot and tired. I am glad he made it and that we were able to see him. Hopefully the doctor will give him some good news.
Today was just an easy day. Went to church and saw all the relatives that I have no idea who they are. I know some by name, but it is what it is. I haven't been back here in ten years so I didn't expect to know anyone. After me and the babies got naps, and dad took his drive (again) with mom, we went to Blands park or whatever it is called now. Both kids got to ride some rides. Abbie had a fun time on the carousal with her grandpa. Stevie got to ride the carosual, boats, the firetruck, flying elepahnts and the train. The boats were my favortie as a kid and he really liked when I showed him how to use the bell.
I just can't beleive how much my babies have grown in the last 10 days. Stevie is such a grandmas boy right now. He started calling her ma or mama (I told mom i wasn't offended because I am mommy now). SHe has gotten him to eat just about averything, noodles, mac and cheese, and pretty much everything hse asks him to try. Hopefully that will continue once we get home.
Abbie is pretty much sitting by herself with help from behind. She is so over babyfood and is trying really hard to get table food. Right now I do give her both, but I have to keep yelling at grams since she is trying to sneak in chicken fingers and french fries. I have relaxed since Stevie was born, but I am not ready for her to eat meats. She has been trying all sorts of fruits. Abbie had a strawberry when we went strawberry picking last week. I gave her kiwi tonight that she loved. She really likes mashed potatoes. I have to say I am glad one of my kids will eat mashed potatoes. It would be nice though, if she had just a few more teeth. She only had the 2 front bottom ones right now, but the way she is eating, you would think she has a mouthful.

Elmo's World
We have so much to catch up on. We are on a vacation with my parents. It has been a long fun week. Today was awesome, because we hit up Sesame Place and got to meet Elmo. Stevie had a great time. He rode some rides, watched a live version of Elmo's world, and bought way to much stuff. We only did about half of the park before crankiness rolled in.
On our way to Grandma McFarland's, we have hit Valley Forge. Steve was jealous when I told him that. Right now, we are staying in Lancaster. Abbie has a very cute Amish bonnet now. My kids are growing so fast. Abbie is sitting up in high chairs and stealing big people food. She learned how to drink from a straw in the last few days. Still hasn't figured out the sippy cup. Stevie is talking in sentences and asking "what's that?" I blinked and they just got smarter.
Some of the other things we have done, we went to Philadelphia yesterday and saw the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Stevie started doing cannonballs into the swimming pool. That is just the first part of the PA tour. We did a bunch in New York last week.

New York Week One
So last week was both kids first plane rides and I will never take a red eye again. Grandpa was trying to get me to check the car sears and the strollers to make it easier to go thru security. Made him a little upset when refused, but I reminded him he wasn't planning on carrying any kids plus the small luggage store I had to carry. II was not about to give up my wheels. Plus if either of those car seats got lost, I sure didn't want to go buy a new one. We made it in one piece after a very exhausting night with only 3 hours if sleep.
Niagara Falls was fun, and yes honey, we did go to the Canada side. I was threatened bodily harm if we didn't go to Canada after the pain of getting passports. Stevie really loved the water and the falls were beautiful.
Saturday we watched my beautiful cousin Emily marry Zack. It was a fun time and got to see a lot of family. As soon as the reception was over, it started to downpour. We got stuck under the tent. After 15 minutes of that rain, the groom and his buddies turned the backyard into a slip-n-slide. What was great is Stevie deciding to join them. That poor kid got soaked, but he had such a good time.
Monday was grazing at Grandma's. I got to see Kala since she was home on her deployment. The only people we missed this fun filled weekend were my husband and brothers. It was so nice that we got to see everyone else.
Tuesday was on our way to Pennsylvania. Before we left we had one more stop to make with the kids. One of my memories growing up was when we'd visit Grams for the summer, we always went fruit picking. Mostly berries, but I do remember doing peaches once. We took the kids strawberry picking. Stevie had a great time and kept taking a bite out of one then putting in his bucket. We had quite a few half eating strawberries. And just to make Grams happy, I let Abbie go to town on a strawberry. Boy, that girl can eat and she did love it.

Horray for Abbie!
She finally rolled over from her back to her stomach today. She hasn't done that by herself yet. Stevie helps her roll all the time, but she hadn't quite mastered it herself....until today. We even had her well baby yesterday and the doctor wasn't too worried because she is trying. The doctor was very honest and said it was because she has a big head. Poor kid.

Funny Things for the Day
Stevie has plateaued for potty training. He throws a fit about half the time when we try to go. He did decide that Bear needed to go potty today. He took bear into the bathroom, put him on the Elmo potty and once Bear was done, Stevie had to wipe his "poo bum." At least I know it is sinking in since he is having Bear imitate what he is suppose to do. I just have to make sure Bear doesn't completely end up in the toilet.
I am not feeling so well today, so we took it easy. We tried out toddler time at the library. Stevie lasted for about half of it. I think it will just take some time to incorporate it into our days. This afternoon was a fun day of playdoh. Playdoh was easy entertain for 45 minutes. I could not believe he sat there with his new little play set. Thankfully, nothing got on the carpet.
Abbie and I have Itsy Bitsy Yoga tomorrow. I hope I feel well enough to go. I feel bad because I plan all these activities for Stevie and she just gets dragged along. I wish I could get her out of her car seat more when we do things like story time, I just can't seem to keep a hand on Stevie and it worries me. I think next time, I will try the jeep carrier so she can at least see what is going on. Oh what to do, I need to get my two year old better trained!

Mother's Day Weekend
I feel so blessed to be "Mommy!" This weekend was great. Steve had plans to take us to the Pueblo Riverwalk on Saturday, but Stevie quickly changed our plans and requested that we go back to the zoo to see the baby giraffes. I think he was disappointed last weekend when we had to leave early since it decided to snow. We had a good time and Abbie stayed awake for the whole thing. Stevie got to ride the train and then we took a ride on the crazy fast carousel. It also makes me sick to ride, but he thought it was great.
Today was a very fun day at home. For Mother's Day, the boys made me breakfast and then we played outside for most of the day. My two year old is getting a tan. We tried out our new sprinkler. He was very unsure at the start, but it started to get better. The poor kid was soaked. My beautiful baby girl was just happy and babbling. She sat outside with us for almost an hour watching all the yard work and playing til nap time. It will be nice when I can get her back in the grass. Didn't work out so well today since Steve was doing yard work, but she is trying to play and keep up with her brother.
My kids are beautiful and my husband is wonderful and I couldn't have had a better day!

Potty Training
We have been really trying to focus on potty training. Last week during nap Stevie changed his own diaper. He has been taking his pull up's off during nap time once a week or so and sleeping naked. For the most part there had been no accidents when he has done it. The turning point for me was when I went to wake him up last week I noticed he had changed his pants. The boy had taken off his poopy pull up, threw it in the trash, put his dirty pants in the hamper and then pulled on clean pants. It was hilarious, so now I am making more of an effort. He is still fighting it every other day so I can't enforce to much.
On a side note, the back yard is done! It looks awesome. I even let Stevie go out back by himself to play. It has been great not having the mud and I feel comfortable with him roaming around the yard.
Abbie just loves her brother. He has a way of making her laugh. He will just stand over her and stare and she starts laughing. I can get her laughing, especially when I hit her tickle spots but he can just make her laugh by saying hi. I am so glad my kids love each other.

Backyard
So today is the start day to get our backyard finished. I am so excited! No more mud and weeds. The start looks pretty good with how everything is set up. I did have to tell Steve that they tore up grass in the front yard to get everything in the back. The good news is, it will be replaced and all the low spots that Steve caused a few years back will be fixed.
Since we couldn't exactly play outside today, I took the kids to the zoo. Stevie has been asking e for a week now for giraffes. He was so excited when we went a few weeks ago and just wanted to go back. His favorite animal right now is defiantly a giraffe. I think the close second would be a monkey.

Stevie Helps Make Sandwiches
Black Eyes Peas
In the car this morning, I heard Stevie repeating "I'm a bee, I'm a bee." He has been doing this for the last couple of days. For the life of me, I could not figure out where this came from. Well this morning I finally figured it out when the morning show I listen to on the radio actually played a song. I don't keep the radio too loud, but the song on was Black Eyed Peas' "Imma Be." I wasn't quite sure if that's really what he was saying, but sure enough on the way home another song came on. It wasn't the same song but to him it sounded the same, and once again I heard him in the back seat singing "I'm a bee, I'm a bee." So funny , but a good reminder to watch what we listen too.
These kiddos crack me up. Abbie is such an easy child. She is so happy and giggly. She was a little crabby this morning. Still wondering when the first tooth is coming in. She has been refusing her naps, so I guess her crabbiness is from the lack of napping. She almost mastered her roll yesterday. She was complete on her belly, except for her one arm. I'm sure she will master it soon.
Stevie is still not eating a lot. When he does like something, he devours it. He took a bite last night of "chicken" which was really pork chops. He even chewed it for a few bites before spitting it out. It felt like a victory. Today I gave him some yogurt to share with Daddy. Daddy didn't much yogurt because Stevie kept putting his head in the way so Steve couldn't get any yogurt. After they where finished, Stevie realized I still had some of my yogurt and raced over, climbed in my lap and did the same thing to me. Silly boy, now if I can get him to eat some more veggies.

Weekly Smiles
So Abbie is getting closer to rolling. I can't believe how big she is getting. She has been eating her rice cereal like a champ. I am so glad I am home to watch her grow. We did yoga again this week. It was some good bonding time for us. She smiles and laughs so much now. She really loves her brother. He keeps coming and giving her kisses and she just laughs. I am glad they get along right now.
Stevie has been keeping me busy this week. He keeps climbing on everything and getting lots of spankings to boot. I caught him pulling the kitchen chairs out and standing on the table. I have been trying to keep him occupied. We have gone swimming, to the zoo, played outside. He really likes our sensory tub with birdseed. Every time we are outside, he grabs his tub and drags it out to feed the birds. Our grass will have some interesting things growing.
Easter Time
So Easter was last weekend and we had a blast. The kids went on their first Easter egg hunt at the mall on Saturday. It was crazy busy and I doubt we will do it again, but it was a fun experience for Stevie. He kept picking up the eggs and putting them in other kids baskets. It was so nice of him to share. I did eventually get him to put some eggs in his own basket.
Sunday was Easter. We had a relaxing morning at home. Stevie went around and found some of the eggs the Easter Bunny left around the house. After he found a few he came in to wake us up. He even gave Abbie an egg to play with. We went to a friends house for Easter dinner. Once again we had an Easter egg hunt. Stevie finally got down what he was suppose to do. It was a nice relaxing day with friends.
Dinner didn't work out the way it was suppose to since my friend didn't read the directions about a ham taking two hours to warm up, but a chicken from the store solved the problem.

Easter Bunny and Paint Time
So we have had a busy week full of new things. Big milestone for Abbie is we started rice cereal on Monday. She was having more frequent night wakings so I thought I'd try to see if she last longer through the night. She loved her cereal and went back to sleeping. We are back on to our 4-5 wake up call instead of 12, 2 and 4 that she had started. Now that it has been a few days, the girl can't get enough. She is so demanding and I can't get that food into her mouth fast enough. I so hope she is not as picky as Stevie when she starts to eat more.
We also had a visit to the Easter Bunny and like any two year old, Stevie screamed the whole time. We don't like the Easter Bunny right now. Not to surprised since Santa was terrifying as well. The kids also had their first experience with Yoga. The gym has classes that are for each of their age groups. Abbie had a great time. We had good bonding time and she even stayed awake for the whole class. Stevie was a little uneasy. He had a good time running around and doing a couple of poses.
When we got home, I decided to try a new project that I read about on the No Time for Flash Cards blog. Stevie had fun messing with the paint. Some even made it onto the paper. After a while, it was just more fun to roll the trucks in the paint. Was a little messy, but I have to say that washable paint rocks!

Dinner
So we had a snow storm yesterday....enough were we really couldn't venture too far from the house. Stevie wanted to help me make dinner and I decided on chicken noodle soup. Stevie walked around the house yesterday afternoon just saying chicken soup. It was the cutest thing hearing him say it. He helped pour the soup, put the extra carrots in the bowl, and even dump in the water. I thought for sure since he doesn't eat much, he would at least eat the carrots out of the soup. He is a carrot boy after all. Well that didn't happen, all those extra carrots ended up on the floor. He actually drank he soup broth, maybe even a noodle or too. I couldn't believe he ate his "chicken soup."
Meanwhile I am getting so many snuggles from my baby girl. She is definitely a mama's girl and recognizes where I go. She sees smiles and giggle when we talk. Now she is grabbing at my face. We laid down at nap time and she was just a cooing away and holding my fingers. My kids are awesome and make me smile everyday. Some days can be tiring, but it's all worth it in the end.

Tantrums and cupcakes
So today was fun. The babies and I went to the gym to have our play time. It's very enjoyable because we get out of the house. They get exposure to other kids and adults and I actually work out. It's also fun cause I get to take Stevie swimming. Nap once again wasn't working. I don't know why this kid fights his nap. I finally broke out the port-a-crib to keep him confined. He was so tired but it still took him half an hour to pass out. I know that stubbornness comes from his grandpa...and well me.
After he woke up, the tantrums started. I just don't think he slept long enough. I did finally get him to calm down after we went to the TV room. This boy is so busy, we rarely watch TV, but the promise of giraffes changed his mind. He didn't watch much of Madagascar, but we at least stopped the tantrums. I broke out the wooden play cupcakes that grandma gave him. They even included markers. It kept him entertained for a good 30 minutes. It felt like a record.
So when daddy got home, I got to start heating dinner. And then of course Abbie needed her turn to be upset. She was smiley and giggle all day. I love to hear her giggle, but she just got tired. Daddy started sing the "we like to move it move it" song from Madagascar. Stevie started to join in. It was so funny to see him dance and try to sing "move it move it." Abbie really loves her brother. He kept giving her kisses and she loved it. I feel so blessed to have these too babies. They amaze me every day with the way they see things. Stevie is just a chatter box and he is moving on to 3 word sentences. Abbie loves to be with her mommy and watch me. I love being home to raise my babies. I have to say it was th best decision ever to become a SAHM.

Birthday
So we had Stevie's 2nd birthday party today and now I am pooped. Yes, I know it was a week late, but it was far too hard to plan a party in 3 days. Having it this weekend gave me 10 days. It was tons and tons of Elmo. The cake turned out better than I thought. Stevie had a great time. His little friend Robby from daycare came over with a few other family friends and we had a BBQ and lots of bubbles and running around. My main goal was to wear him out since the little stink is refusing his naps.
The cake took a while last night. Lots of interruptions and lots of red food coloring. It still wasn't as red as I wanted and after I finished, I finally found a blog that said to make the frosting 3 days in advance and it gets redder with time. Wish I would have read that last week!
For the last 4 days, nap time has been a struggle. Today was no exception. He just sits in his room having quiet time and finally falls asleep at like 2. He is suppose to get up at 3, and I feel bad because it's only an hour nap. Today I finally got out the port-a-crib and stuck him in that just to get him to stop playing. He was shoving things down his heater vent. Steve took care of that with a couple of screws. I had the crib in Abbie's room since Steve was fixing the vent and so underestimate his reach. After 30 minutes of screaming, I checked and saw her entire drawer of onesies were thrown across the whole room...and his pants. I need to try and get him more worn out tomorrow morning to try and get these naps back on schedule.

First Week
So I have officially been a stay at home mom for 1 week now and am loving it. Granted the babies were in daycare until Wednesday. I had to pay for it, so I took advantage. Got some spring cleaning done and even had a spa morning. That was wonderful. Long over due.
So far we have been keeping busy. Thursday we went to the gym and while Abbie chilled in the daycare, Stevie and I went swimming. He hated the big pool and freaked for 10 minutes. I finally took him to the water park area where they had slides. It took him a while to feel comfortable enough, but he actually started splashing around. I think it helped that it was only 6 inches deep. He even got brave and went down the slide with me a few times. Stevie just keeps growing and growing. I can't believe he turned 2 last week.
Abbie is amazing. She finally has discovered her laugh and really enjoys watching her brother. She really giggles when anyone kisses her belly and just watches Stevie to no end. I am glad they like each other. We have a little bit of jealousy, but I only notice it before and after nap times. I feel truley blessed to be home with my babies to watch them grow. I feel like I have missed so much over the last few months. Stevie is talking in sentences, Abbie is rolling. Where did the time go?
